Mini-Portfolio

My name is Leslie Crill (which I'm sure you already know, because it's in the title of my blog. Pretty handy, right?). I am in my 2nd year of the ANI program, having transferred from Cabrillo College in Aptos. My focus for the program is Animation, though I'm not sure yet what I want to specialize in. Once I take some more classes (and some more of the advanced ones) I'll hopefully get a better idea of what I want to go into. This semester, I am taking  too many classes! AHH!  3 ANI classes (55, 112B, and 113A), TA100W (Writing workshop) and, of course, this one. Some might call me crazy. I call myself that now and again. But I had a lot of trouble last semester getting into the classes I needed, so now I'm playing catch-up.

Some random other facts about me:
   1. I have 5 sisters (no brothers)
   2. I practice two Martial Arts, and have a 2nd Degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do
   3. My car's name is Sam
   5. Sam is as old as I am (23yr)
   6. I can lick my elbow
   7. Currently, the closest object to me is a Jury Duty summons (yay...)
   8. Number 6 is a lie
   9. I skipped number 4
 10. Here, have some images :)
(11. Number 10 is not actually a fact, but rather, an introduction to the images)

Both of these are from ANI 24 last year.
This one is a Semi-Blind drawing (looking mostly at the model instead of the paper while drawing).

Charcoal reversal rendering (from photograph)
Sheet was entirely blacked out with charcoal, then the drawing was "lifted" (erased) out of it.

This video is of my Kendo school's exhibition at the Japanese Cultural Arts Fair in Santa Cruz.  What we are doing is called "sport combat"using padded weapons to enable us to fight full-contact with minimal armor. I am the one in the white helmet and red chest piece, and usually on the right-hand side of the screen.
Some commands you might hear during the fight:
   Hajimei = begin
   Yamei   = stop
With each successful strike, the match is stopped and a point awarded (I've cut those parts out, because they slow everything down). First combatant to 3 points wins the match. I won this one.
